Lunglei is a major town in the State of Mizoram and translates to bridge of rock. It got the name from the bridge-esque rock that is positioned within the Riverine zone near the Tlawng River (longest in the State of Mizoram) tributary of Nghasih. It is the biggest town here after Aizawl and lies 165 km away from it. Lunglei was the capital from 1888 for the South Lushai Hill Districts. The elevation of the town is 1,222 meters above sea level while the population has been estimated at 57,011 people as of the year 2011. Mizo is the main language spoken here while the coordinates of Lunglei are 22.88°N 92.73°E.
