Shivaji Nagar is one of the prominent localities of Bangalore. It is named after the great Maratha king Shivaji. The area is adjacent to Bangalore Cantonment area and nearby to M.G Road, and it is next to Frazer Town a lavish area of Muslims. It is also Known as Mini India for its cultural diversity. The area is also famous for its Food by Muslim Hotels in local e.g. Kebab, Biryani, and Haleem. Area between Infantry Road to St John's Church Road and from K.Kamraj Road to Queens Road is Shivaji Nagar. Though much has altered now, the remnants of the past are still visible. Russell Market is still the main market place of the area and one can see the spires of St Mary’s Basilica opposite it. One can also still see some old shop-houses and theatres, which served the residents. The major landmarks of this area are Bowring Hospital, Commercial Street, Russel Market, Lal Masjid, Furniture Shops at Central Street, St. Mary's Basilica and Bangalore Cantonment Railway Station. Several reputed educational institutions, hospitals, banks, restaurants and other such basic establishments make the area much sought after amongst the home seekers.
