Kangra

Himachal Pradesh, India, 176001

Kangra is a municipal council and city in the District of Kangra within Himachal Pradesh. It is also called Nagarkot. The city was founded in 1500 BC by Susharma Chand. The city has its own municipality as well. The total area covered is 15 square kilometers and the elevation is 733 meters. The population of Kangra stood at 9,528 people as of the year 2011. The languages spoken here include Sanskrit and Hindi. The coordinates of Kangra are 32°06′11″N 76°16′24″E.

There are many reputed educational institutions here including the St. James School, G.A.V. Public School, Maharishi Vidya Mandir, SSM Private Industrial Training Institute, and many others. Leading hospitals here include the Shree Balaji Hospital, Fortis Hospital, and the Civil Hospital. There are many railway stations here including the Kangra Mandir railway station and the Koparlahar railway station. The Gaggal Airport lies 13 km away from Kangra City. The Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Jammu Airports lie near Kangra City as well.
