Nawanshahr district was carved out of Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar Districts of Punjab. It is said to be have been built in the time of Alauddin Khilji. Now the name of Nawanshahr has changed into Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar. This district is located in the North-eastern part of Punjab on the right bank of mighty river Sutlej. It covers 1267 square kilometres with hot and humid weather and strong monsoon. Nawanshahr or Shahid Bhagat Singh district has 306,902 male and 280,566 female with coordinates of 31°7'31"N 76°6'59"E. People here speak in Punjabi, Hindi and English.
