Rupnagar District, Punjab, India

Rupnagar, previously known as Ropar, is a city and a municipal corporation in Punjab. It is a newly created divisional headquarters in Punjab. Rupnagar is considered one of the biggest cities of the Indus Valley civilization. This city is 43 km northwest of Chandigarh. Besides, the city has Himachal Pradesh on its north and the Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar district towards the west. Geographically, the city is at 30.97°N 76.53°E with 260 metres of elevation. The town is on the banks of the Satluj River along with Shivalik hills opposite the river banks. It is spread over 4100 square kilometres and has a total of 56,038 population. People mostly speak Punjabi.

Rupnagar railway station is under the Northern railway zone, and it easily connects to Chandigarh, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Nangal Dam, and others. These are NH 205, NH 103 A, and NH 344 A, which make it easy to travel to major cities from Rupnagar. However, Chandigarh is the nearest airport to this city, just 42 kilometres. One has options like IIT Ropar, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Bhaddal, and the government college Ropar for higher education. The healthcare centres are Baweja Multi Speciality Hospital, Civil Hospital, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Community Health Centre, Bharatgarh, and District Hospital Rupnagar.
