Tamil Nadu, India

Ooty officially known as Udhagamandalam also known as Ootacamund, is a city and a municipality in the Nilgiris district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located 86 km north west of Coimbatore and 128 km south of Mysore and is the headquarters of the Nilgiris district. It is popularly and lovingly called Queen of Hill Stations and Western Ghats. Its coordinates are 11.4102° N, 76.6950° E. Ooty is most famous for its tea plantations. Some of the famous tourist places in Ooty are Avalanche Lake; Ooty Lake is indeed a place to visit. Botanical Gardens of Ooty is undeniably one of the most popular places to see in Ooty. Tamil is the official language of Udhagamandalam Nilgiris is one of districts of Tamil Nadu in India; Nilgiris population in 2022 is 777,072.

The ghat roads to the district pass through forests and steep slopes and contain a number of sharp hair-pin bends. The major five ghat roads to the district are: Ooty-Kotagiri Ghat Road, Coonoor Ghat Road, Gudalur Ghat Road, Sigur Ghat Road, and Manjur Ghat Road. The nearest railhead is Mettupalyam, 40 kilometres from Ooty. There are trains from Chennai, Coimbatore, Mysore and Bangalore connecting Mettupalyam. The nearest airport to Ooty is Coimbatore Airport which is 56.7 km away. Other nearby airports includes Calicut 86.6 km, Kannur 136.7 km and Kochi 143.7 km. Nearly 2 buses operate between Mettupalyam to Ooty route. The A/C seater buses are available for the Coimbatore to Ooty route.
