Madanpur Khadar is a small town in Delhi's southeast. The village, located on the border between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, is almost 800 years old and was given its current name in honor of Thakur Madan Singh Chauhan. Khadar is part of the name of this village because it is located near the Yamuna River. In 1966, city officials under the Delhi Metropolitan Council designated the area as an urban village. The settlement of Madanpur Khadar was founded by Thakur Madan Singh Chauhan 800 years ago and still bears his name. Members of Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan's army, his predecessors, were fierce fighters. Around 600 years ago, some of Thakur Madan Singh's relatives fled the village and eventually settled in the cities of Garh Ganga and Haridwar. Gurjars, originally from the neighboring regions and engaged primarily in cattle grazing, were moved here and granted land some 300 years ago. The National Highway 19 provides easy access to Madanpur Khadar from the city's main thoroughfare, Vishwaji's Road. Both the Sarita Vihar Metro Station on the Delhi Metro's Violet Line and the Kalindi Kunj Metro Station on the Metro's Magenta Line are within a kilometer's walking distance. The Delhi Transportation Corporation (DTC) ensures quick access to neighboring neighborhoods. The closest train station is Tughlakabad Railway Station, located around three kilometers away. The distance to Indira Gandhi International Airport is about 23 kilometers.
