Shankar Vihar is a locality in South West Delhi that has several residential complexes serving personnel of the Indian Armed Forces and their families. This area is provided by the Government of India. At present, there are above 278 houses including Permanent & Temporary. Locality is encircled by an airbase, open fields and scrub forests. Shankar Vihar is located in Delhi Cantonment. The locale houses a huge shopping complex with a prominent Army Public School. This region is quite well maintained and offers scenic viewpoints as well as manicured parks, gymnasiums, swimming pools and restaurants. The Shankar Vihar metro station is also a stop on the Magenta Line of the Delhi Metro. This is the only station amongst the Delhi Metro network which restricts the free movement of civilians due to its area located in the Delhi Cantonment area and defence zone alike. As the station falls inside an army unit, the commuters needs to carry ID cards to take exit from the station. You will also find a Student Housing Hub around the locale.
