Barmer is a leading city cum municipal council within the district of Barmer in Rajasthan State. It is the administrative headquarters of the district as well. It is governed by the Nagar Parishad of the area. Barmer had 100,015 people as of 2011 while the total area is 28,387 square kilometers in total. The languages spoken here include Rajasthani, Hindi and Marwadi. The coordinates of the city are 25.7521° N, 71.3967° E.

Barmer railway station is the connectivity lifeline for residents here. The area does not have any airport. The nearest airport is the one in Jodhpur.
