NH-21 Jaipur to Agra: Fact guide

The National Highway(NH)-21 (NH-21) spans a distance of 465 kilometre (km), connecting the cities of Jaipur in Rajasthan to Agra and Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh (UP). This is part of the Golden Quadrilateral project.

NH 21: Route

The route from Jaipur to Bharatpur, Bharatpur to Agra, Agra to Sikandra Rao, Sikandra Rao to Budaun and Budaun to Bareilly is commonly travelled. Presence of the various checkpoints on NH-21 makes it safe.

The distance between Jaipur and Agra is approximately 250 km, and it takes around 4-5 hours to cover this distance by road. The section from Jaipur to Agra was previously known as NH-11 before the renumbering of national highways in 2010 by the ministry of road transport and highways.

NH-21: Key junctions

The route starts at the NH-48 Terminal near Jaipur.
It intersects with NH-52 and NH-248 near Jaipur.
Further along, it crosses NH-148 near Dausa and NH-921 near Mahwa.
The journey continues with intersections at NH-123 near Uncha Nagla and NH-321 near Kiraoli.
It then joins NH-44 near Kiraoli, which leads to NH-509 near Agra.
From there, it intersects with NH-34 and NH-530B near Sikandra Rao.
Finally, the route ends at the NH-30 Terminal near Bareilly.

NH-21: What can you expect to see along the way?

Starting in Jaipur, travellers will pass through Rajasthani villages, vistas of canals, and deserts while they make their way to Agra.

Those driving towards Agra can see the Aravalli Mountain Range, the Yadav Valley and the rivers Syanda and Chambal. During their journey, travellers can also visit the Bhangarh Fort and some monuments that the Archaeological Survey of India protects.

By taking a detour, other famous sites around the highway, such as the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple in Karauli, Roopangarh Fort, from the 17th century and Kishangarh Fort, which was built in the 11th century can also be seen.

Early spring and late autumn are the best times to visit Agra and explore the highway.
