NH27: Connecting Silchar to Porbandar

The highway covers cities such as Udaipur, Kota, Jhansi, Kanpur, Lucknow, Kolkata and Guwahati.

The NH27, referred to as the National Highway-27, is a national highway in India that connects Silchar in Assam with Porbandar in Gujarat over roughly 3,200 kilometre (km). The highway covers several cities and towns, providing connectivity to important tourist, industrial and agricultural centres. NH27 is a four-lane highway for most of its length but many portions have been upgraded to six lanes as part of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP) started by the Indian government.

NH27: Significance

The area that NH27 travels through has long been a hub of trade and business. The route makes it simpler to transport people and products between these areas by linking the ports of Gujarat to the northeastern states.

In terms of connection and economic importance, the NH27 is one of India’s most important national highways, and it has several noteworthy bridges, tunnels and flyovers. In order to promote trade and business, the British colonial government constructed numerous roads and highways throughout India during the 19th century. Construction of the highway started at this time. The NH27 was initially built in several portions during this time, and since then, it has gone through several stages of construction and renovation.

The NH27 continues to be crucial for fostering tourism and cross-cultural interaction as one of the country’s most significant national thoroughfares.
