The Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral project, which connects Ahmedabad and Vadodara in Gujarat. The expressway was inaugurated in 2004 by then Prime Minister, Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The 93.1 km expressway is also the National Expressway-1 (NE1). This is the first intercity expressway to be constructed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway will be connected with the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway via a cloverleaf interchange.

Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway: Features
The Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway has 9 underpasses, 4 major bridges, 20 minor bridges and 15 flyovers. The Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway has two exits at Anand (30 km from Vadodara) and Nadiad (50 km from Vadodara). Note that two-wheelers are not allowed on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway.
Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway: Project cost
The cost of the project is Rs 475 crore. The Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway reduced the travel time between Ahmedabad and Vadodara from two and a half hours to one hour. The speed limit in this four-lane expressway is 100 kmph. In 2009, it was decided to extend the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway to Mumbai and upgrade it to a six-lane expressway. With an estimate of Rs 3,300 crore for the upgrade project, IRB Infra was awarded the contract but the project is yet to start.
