Barabanki is a leading municipal board and city within Uttar Pradesh. It is also the administrative headquarters for the Barabanki District. It lies 30 km eastwards from Lucknow. It had a population of 146,831 people as per the last Census. The locality falls within the Faizabad Division and covers 45 square kilometers in total. The languages spoken here include Hindi and Urdu. Barabanki has coordinates of 26.9268° N, 81.1834° E. The district was founded by the British upon annexing the State of Oudh in 1856. It was earlier called Daryabad. However, the district headquarters later became Barabanki in 1859. A tourist landmark here is the Parijat Tree in Kintoor.

Barabanki is well connected by several roads and highways including NH-28 and NH-27 along with the NH-72/72H towards Lakhimpur and NH-927 towards Nepalganj Border. The Lucknow Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport lies just 40 km away from the area. There are several educational institutions including the Saint Anthony’s Inter College, Barabanki City and the Anand Bhawan School among others.
