Uttar Pradesh to implement e-registration in 2 phases

The CM has called for a draft on e-registration to be prepared and presented soon.

June 24, 2024: Uttar Pradesh (UP) chief minister Yogi Adityanath on June 22, 2024 provided critical guidelines with respect to the Online Registration Rules 2024 to the state Stamp and Registration Department, mention media reports. The state government will soon roll out e-registration.

Stressing on the online system of stamp and registration being the need of the hour for ease of living, better records and data management, the CM called for a draft on the same to be prepared and presented at the earliest, mentioned reports.

In order for the registrations and e-registrations to be transparent, these should be done through government approved and RERA approved agencies. The work of e-filing should be done through bank file 6 (1), rent agreement for up to 12 months and any document under sections 18 and 89 of the Registration Act 1908.

According to media reports, the e-registration will be rolled out in two phases- wherein in phase-1 government agencies, development and industrial development authorities should be approved for sale deed, agreement and lease deed. The phase-2 will include the same for institutions approved by RERA.

Currently during registration, the physical presence of the person is required. However, with e-registration in place, this can be done online after KYC and Aadhaar verification. While this will be user-friendly, it will also eliminate the need of a middle man during the process of registration of a property.

Reports added that the CM also directed to reduce the stamp registration charged for rental agreement of residential, non-residential and commercial property.
