Stamp duty and registration charges in Bhopal

Discussed in this article is the amount that you need to pay towards stamp duty and registration charges, to become a property owner in Bhopal

With a view to boost home sales in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Madhya Pradesh government, in September 2020, effected a reduction in stamp duty and registration charges. The move by the state government brought down the overall effective duty on property registration to 10.5% from 12.5%.

When we say overall charges, we mean the principal stamp duty, the municipal duty, the janpad duty, the registration charge and the duty charged under the head upkar in Madhya Pradesh.

The reduced rates had boosted buyer sentiment, consequently improving property sales in key housing markets of Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal. However, since the reduced rates were only applicable for a temporary period between September 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, the old rates on property registration are now valid in Madhya Pradesh, including in Bhopal.
