Kottayam is a city within Kerala and lies with the Western Ghats on one flank and the Kuttanad paddy fields and Vembanad Lake on the other. Kottayam is known for being the headquarters of the Kottayam District and lies in the south-western part of the city. It comes within the Central Travancore region. The official language is Malayalam and it was integrated in 1921. The Kottayam Municipality governs the area. The total area is 77.8 square kilometers while the population stands at 136,812 people. The coordinates of Kottayam are 9.5947087°N 76.4855729°E.
