Yadgir is a leading city and administrative headquarters for the District of Yadgir in Karnataka. It is also the headquarters for the Yadgir Taluka, covering 5.6 square kilometers in total. The Bhima River runs through this area. The area is historically called Yetagiri. It covers 5.6 square kilometers in total while lying at an elevation of 389 meters. The total population stood at 74,294 people as of the year 2011. The coordinates of Yadgir are 16.7626° N, 77.1442° E. Major tourist landmarks here include the Lumbini Park Yadgir, Yadgir Fort, Taylor Manzil, and many others.
Infrastructure and Details
The Yadgir railway station is the main connectivity lifeline for the area while the city is well connected to Gulbarga and Raichur. The State Highway 15 runs through the city as well. There are several industries here including a sugar manufacturing unit and also one for fuel. Uranium deposits have also been discovered nearby along with other natural resources. There are two rivers running through the area, namely the Bhima and Krishna, offering immense scope for industrial growth. Several pharmaceutical companies are also setting up their plants in the city. Reputed educational institutions here include Mahatma Gandhi High School and the Centurion International School. Leading hospitals here include the Sharanabasava Hospital, Yadgir Government Hospital, and the Aashirwad Hospital among others.
