The Namma Metro network in Bangalore is a lifeline for the residents, especially thousands of working professionals commuting to the IT hubs. Currently, the Bangalore Metro has two operational lines – the Green Line and the Purple Line. The Green line serves as a north-south corridor with mostly elevated with 26 elevated stations and three underground stations. The Green line connects Nagasandra in the north-west to Silk Institute in the South.
A total of 29 stations are operational to date and three stations are under construction. This line became operational on 1 March 2014. In the north-west, the line connects Nagasandra to Silk Institute in the South. It also connects the industrial centres of Peenya and Yelahanka in the north, the Majestic hub in the centres, and some residential areas of Bangalore in the south.

Bangalore Metro Green Line extension status
The BMRCL plans to extend the metro network to the city outskirts to boost connectivity to areas like Nelamanagala, Bidadi and Hoskote. The BMRCL has initiated the process to explore the Green Line metro link to Tumakuru by issuing a tender for preparing the detailed project report (DPR). The proposed metro line will cover a length of 59.6 km. In May 2025, the state government approved a feasibility report, opting for a public-private partnership (PPP) model instead of a special purpose vehicle arrangement that was earlier estimated to cost Rs 18,670 crore with joint funding from the Centre and the state.

Green Line Metro Bangalore: Fare and timings
The trains on the Green Line operate from 5 A.M. to 10:35 P.M. every day. But on Sundays, the timings change to 7 A.M. to 11 P.M. There are timings changes on public holidays and the second and fourth Saturdays to 6 A.M. to 10:35 P.M. The fare of the Namma Metro ranges between Rs 10 and Rs 60. If you have the smart card, you can get some discounts on the fare depending on the number of stations you travel. The price of the card is Rs 50.
Green Line Metro Bangalore: Impact on realty
Built along the purple line, the green line has increased connectivity for people within the city. The line also connects some residential and industrial hubs, increasing the area’s value. Several localities near the Green Metro Line are seeing growth. Localities like Lalbagh, Banashankari, and Srirampura have seen price appreciation of up to 13% in recent years. The rental demand has also increased along the Green Line Metro areas. Shortly, three more stations will be added to the Green Line, making it 33 km. This is expected to further boost real estate developments along the corridor.
