Green Line metro in Chennai was inaugurated on 29 June 2015.

Green Line Metro in Chennai comes under Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), which is a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu. Green Line, also known as Line Two of Chennai Metro, comes under the Phase One project. It covers 17 stations, out of which nine stations are underground and eight are elevated.

This metro was built to reduce carbon footprints and promote sustainable living. It connects various attractions of Chennai and reduces traffic problems in the city. It is also connected with the Blue Line Metro in Chennai, which provides a better chance for commuters to reach their destination.
