The Yamuna Nagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation governs the area. The area lies at the foothills of the Shivalik Range and has several attractions including the Chaneti Buddhist Stupa and Kalesar National Park.

The Yamuna Nagar-Jagadhri railway station is the main connectivity lifeline for the entire city. The Jagadhri railway station is located at Yamuna Nagar itself. There is another railway station known as the Jagadhri Workshop here. Yamuna Nagar is also a major industrial hub and is known for its agricultural crops including rice, wheat, and sugarcane. It also churns out paper and sugar machinery along with petrochemical equipment. The city is also synonymous with plywood-based industries and carriage and wagon repair industries/workshops. A thermal power station has also come up here courtesy of Reliance Infrastructure. The railway bridge over the River Yamuna covers 1,042 meters, linking the twin cities to Saharanpur. Reputed educational institutions here include the Mukand Lal National College and many others. Leading hospitals here include the Swami Vivekanand Multispecialty Hospital, Raj Hospital, and the J P Hospital among many others.
