Shimla, also known as Simla, is one of the largest cities in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. In 1864, it was declared the summer capital, and since Independence, it has been the capital of Punjab. Later, it became the capital city of Himachal Pradesh. The city has Jakhoo in its northernmost point and Anndale in its southern part. It has Sanjauli in its eastern part and Chotta Shimla in the western region. The city is located in the south-western ranges of the Himalayas and is at 31.61°N 77.10°E, with an elevation of 2,206 metres. The city has a 9.2 kilometres stretch from east to west.
