Hosur was earlier part of Mysore, today it is a city that is located in Tamil Nadu State, under Krishnagiri district under the Hosur division. Its old name in the 10th century was Chevidapadi and in the 13th century was called Murasunadu. It is situated on the Ponnaiyar River banks, very near Bengaluru in Karnataka.
