Bharuch District, Gujarat, India

Bharuch was once called Broach and is located in Gujarat, being the administrative headquarters for the vast Bharuch District. The city has a rich history of its own, especially as a port and center for shipbuilding. Bharuch is known as Peanut City and Kanam Pradesh or black-soil land. The governing authority here is the Bharuch Municipality while the total area of Bharuch stands at 35.34 square kilometers. The population of the area stands at 148,391 people as of the year 2011. The Bharuch Nagar Seva Sadan is the administrative authority with 11 wards in total. Key attractions for tourists include the Nav Nathas and Bhrigu Rishi Temple along with the Dashashwamedh Ghat and River Narmada’s banks. The Soneri Mahal is also another landmark for tourists. The coordinates of the area are 21.7051° N, 72.9959° E.
Infrastructure and Details
Bharuch lies near the GIDC in Ankleshwar and is famous for its port, shipbuilding and chemical manufacturing industries. Other sectors include textile and cotton mills along with dairy products. There are several MNCs here including Reliance, Welspun Maxsteel Ltd, PepsiCo International, Cadila Health Care, Hitachi, Aditya Birla Group, Tata Group, Lupin, NTPC, Glenmark, Bayer, L&T, and others. NH-48 passes through the area while the Golden Bridge links to Ankleshwar. The Surat and Vadodara Airports are accessible from Bharuch while it also has a railway junction. There are several reputed educational institutions here including the ABP School, DPS, Narmada College of Science & Commerce and more. Leading hospitals in Bharuch include private and government entities along with charitable trusts as well. There are sports facilities and shopping centers dotting the city as well.
