PM inaugurates Vadodara-Bharuch section of Delhi-Mumbai expressway

The Vadodara-Bharuch section covers a distance of 86 kilometre.

February 23, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on February 20, 2024, inaugurated the Vadodara-Bharuch section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway and several other development projects across sectors, according to media reports.

After inaugurating the expressway, the prime minister posted on X (Twitter) “Inauguration of the Vadodara-Bharuch section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway today marks a milestone in infrastructure development for Gujarat. This crucial stretch not only enhances connectivity between major economic hubs but also promises a smoother journey for several people.”

 

 

Development projects in Gujarat

At an event in Gujarat’s Navsari, PM Modi dedicated to the nation several road projects in Bharuch, Navsari and Valsad, a rural drinking water supply project in Tapi, and an underground drainage project in Bharuch, among other projects.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone of the first PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (MITRA) Park at Vansi Borsi village in Navsari.

 

Vadodara-Bharuch section of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

The development of a strong road network across the state is one of the top priorities of the Gujarat government. In this direction, the construction of three sections of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway in Gujarat has been completed, an official statement said.

The Vadodara-Bharuch section covers a distance of 86 kilometre, connecting the two cities and reducing travel time to around 40 minutes.

  • The first section of 31 km from Manubar to Sampa has been developed at a cost of over Rs 2,400 crore.
  • The second section of 32 km from Sampa to Padra has been developed at a cost of over Rs 3,200 crore.
  • The third section of 23 km from Padra to Vadodara has been developed at the cost of over Rs 4,300 crore.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a 1,380-km controlled-access expressway which will cover five states:

  • Haryana (129 km)
  • Rajasthan (373 km)
  • Gujarat (426 km)
  • Madhya Pradesh (244 km)
  • Maharashtra (171 km)
