June 9, 2023: Construction of the 1,350-kilometre (km) Delhi Mumbai Expressway is expected to be completed by December 2024, according to media reports. With the completion of the expressway, the travel time between the two metro cities will be reduced to 12 hours from the present 24 hours, Anurag Jain, secretary, road transport and highways ministry said.
Jain reviewed the National Highway projects worth Rs 26,000 crore being developed in Madhya Pradesh. Around 7,700 km of roads have been developed under these projects. A 245-km section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway passes through Madhya Pradesh. Of the nine columns in the state, work has been completed in eight columns, he said. Vehicles would be able to run at a speed of 120 kmph on the road, he added.
The first of the four planned multi-modal logistics parks in the country would come up in Indore, the official said. He further said that the acquisition of 300 acre of land for the facility would be completed by September 2023 and construction would commence under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai expressway will pass through five states and several greenfield sites, which will be developed into warehousing hubs. On February 12, 2023, Prime minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first stretch of the expressway from Sohna in Haryana to Dausa in Rajasthan. This 246-km section reduces the travel time from Delhi to Jaipur to three hours from the previous five hours.
