Govt to develop 6-lane highway to reduce Noida-Delhi travel time

The highway will cover major areas in NCR such as Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Palwal.

June 1, 2023: The government is planning to develop a six-lane highway to connect areas in Delhi NCR, the union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari recently said in his official Twitter post, sharing details of the project.

The Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the transfer of 1.11 acre to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the development of the highway. The land parcel of 4,235 metre will be transferred to NHAI from the irrigation and flood control department under the Delhi government.

The project will be developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana at an estimated cost of Rs 2,627 crore. The highway will connect the Maharani Bagh side of the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) Flyway to the junction with the Jaitpur-Pushta Road section of NH148NA, which is the Delhi section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway.

The proposed route will reduce the travel time from Noida and Delhi to the upcoming Delhi-Mumbai Expressway by around three to four hours. The road runs parallel to the Agra and Gurgaon canals via a green belt. The highway will be constructed from Jaitpur-Pushta Road to the junction near the the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway (KMP expressway) section of National Highway 148 (NH 148). It will cover Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, including areas such as Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh and Palwal.

Inert material will be used for embankment construction and developing elevated structures on a single pier in the project to ensure sustainable development, the union minister said.

The project will be developed by the NHAI in various packages:

  • The first 9-km package from DND flyway to Jaitpur will be an elevated section along the Yamuna River. It will only serve the expressway traffic.
  • The second package from Jaitpur to Ballabhgarh, will be a 25-km section, via the existing bypass is being developed as a six-lane signal-free stretch for expressway traffic. The NHAI will construct service roads of three lanes each on both sides.
  • The third package connects Ballabhgarh to Sohna.
