The entry of two-wheelers, such as bikes and scooters, three-wheelers, non-motorised vehicles, and tractors with or without trailers will not be permitted on the newly launched phase 1 of the Delhi Mumbai expressway, as per a gazette notification dated February 16, 2023, by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The order stated that the movement of high-speed vehicles may pose a risk to the safety of certain classes of comparatively slow-moving vehicles such as two-wheelers, three-wheelers and other vehicles such as non-motorised vehicles, agricultural tractors (with or without trailers) owing to their vulnerability and associated speed differentials and compromise the road safety aspects.
The notification further stated that there have been alternative routes and roads available to the public for connecting the places or accessing various destination points before the development of the expressway, so the restricted category of vehicles must use the service roads.
The Delhi-Mumbai expressway has been designed as a high-speed corridor and the maximum speed limits for motor vehicles of different types for the motorway have been announced, ranging from 80 km/h to 120 km/h.
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the first stretch of the 1,380-km Delhi-Mumbai Expressway from Sohna in Haryana to Dausa in Rajasthan on February 12, 2023.
