Ahmedabad Metro: Route, station list, phases and GMRC latest news

Mentioned in detail in this article is all about the Ahmedabad Metro route, stations and map

The Ahmedabad Metro is being developed by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited under the Companies Act, 1956.

Ahmedabad Metro: Objective

Established in February 2010, GMRC was restructured into a 50:50 special purpose vehicle (SPV) of the government of India and the government of Gujarat. With an intent to provide safe, fast and affordable means of transport, the Ahmedabad Metro rail project was conceived. Ahmedabad Metro is a rapid transit system for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

With the Ahmedabad Metro (the 12th metro in India), the city will also be developed in a planned manner, as it will work in integration with other modes of transport like the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service (AMTS), Ahmedabad BRTS, railways, etc. Ahmedabad Metro has been planned in a way that it involves minimum land acquisition. By using state-of-the-art technology, most tracks along the Ahmedabad Metro route are elevated.

The Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board carried out an extensive study with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and RITES in 2010. However, owing to cost and viability issues, the metro route Ahmedabad project was postponed.

Ahmedabad Metro route is divided into 2 phases – Phase 1 and Phase 2 – that connects all four directions of the city.
