Kandivali is a suburban locality of Northern Mumbai. The history of this town is believed to be as old as the Stone Age as artefacts had been found near this region belonging to that period. The Kandivali railway station was built in 1907 and the place is said to have derived its name from Condolim, an East Indian village. The place was once mined for its famous Malad stone during which time, a workshop and some dwelling houses had been erected and constructed for officers. Notable buildings in Mumbai had been constructed using the Malad stone between the period of 1860 and 1930.
