The number of beneficiaries under the PM-Kisan scheme has increased from 3.16 crore during the release of the first installment (December 2018-March 2019) to 10.45 crore during the release of the 11th installment (April 2022-July 2022), agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on February 7, 2023.
The Centre has undertaken several steps to increase the number of beneficiaries receiving payments under the PM-Kisan, the minister said. He included the Farmers Corner facility on the official portal in this list. Using this facility, farmers can self-register themselves to get the benefit under the scheme. A mobile App has also been launched on February 24, 2020, to make the same facilities of the Farmers Corner on phone as well, the minister said.
“Common Service Centres have been authorised to assist the farmers in registration for the PM-KISAN Scheme, updation of their data and in ascertaining the status of processing of their payment,” he said.
Elaborating on the steps states have taken to create awareness about the programme, the minister said state governments have appointed nodal officers for the scheme at block, district and state level and organised publicity/awareness camps to ensure expeditious verification of the data of the registered beneficiaries. “States/UTs have been asked to expedite the process of saturation of the scheme by ensuring enrollment of all eligible farmer families,” he further added.
Recall here that farmers have been waiting for the 13th installment of the PM Kisan scheme, pending since November 2022. The 12th installment of the scheme was released on October 17, 2022.
