100 km of Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway built in record 100 hours

The road links densely populated areas of Ghaziabad and Aligarh in UP.

May 19, 2023: The Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway has made history by laying of bituminous concrete over a 100-km lane in 100 hours, the road transport & highways ministry said in an official statement today.  “This accomplishment highlights the dedication and ingenuity of India’s road infrastructure industry,” the statement added.

Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari extended his congratulations to the teams of Cube Highways, L&T, and Ghaziabad Aligarh Expressway for this outstanding achievement.

Addressing the celebration ceremony virtually, Gadkari said the 118-km section of the National Highway-34 (NH34) played a vital role as a transportation link between the densely populated regions of Ghaziabad and Aligarh in UP.

Responding to the tweet thread by Gadkari, prime minister Narendra Modi said: “A notable accomplishment on a very important highway route. It manifests the importance given to both speed and embracing modern methods for better infrastructure.”

This project joins various towns and cities in the state, including Dadri, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Sikandrabad, Bulandshahr and Khurja. “It serves as a critical trade route, facilitating the movement of goods and contributing to regional economic development by connecting industrial areas, agricultural regions, and educational institutions,” Gadkari added.

“Emphasising our commitment to sustainability and cost-effectiveness, we have implemented the use of cold central plant recycling technology in the project,” he added.

This green technology involves utilising 90% of the milled material, which amounts to nearly 20 lakh square metre of road surface. He said consequently, the consumption of virgin materials has been reduced to a mere 10%.

“By adopting this approach, we have significantly reduced fuel consumption and the associated greenhouse gas emissions, thereby making a substantial contribution to lowering our carbon footprint,” he said.
