Road transport minister Nitin Gadkari on April 19, 2023, announced the government’s ambitious plan to develop over 250 projects under the Parvatmala Pariyojana. The minister made the announcement during the ‘INTERALPIN 2023 Fair’, held in Austria. The event was attended by industry players, service providers and decision-makers from the cable car industry from across the globe.
The government was promoting the manufacturing of ropeway components under the Make in India initiative, Gadkari said. The focus was on PPP under the hybrid annuity model with 60% contribution support by the government, he added.  The Parvatmala Pariyojana will develop a ropeway length of over 1,200 km to improve connectivity and convenience for commuters, besides promoting tourism.
Gadkari later visited several exhibits of the world’s leading manufacturers of ropeway systems offering high-tech solutions, innovative design, top quality and functionality. The union minister extended an invitation to Austrian and European industries to participate in the much-needed enhancement of existing ropeway standards in India to ensure sustainable and safer transport.
