3, 4-storey buildings in Noida to have lifts

The Noida Authority has approval a proposal to this effect.

Three-and-four-storey buildings in Noida may soon start building lifts with the Noida authority giving an approval to a proposal to this effect in its December 2022 board meeting, The Times of India reported.

A Noida Authority panel in 2018 made a proposal to allow construction of lifts in smaller buildings to offer relief to the elderly. The move by the authority will help as many as 350,000 Noida residents.

“Current rules make it mandatory for multi-storey buildings to have lifts, but there was a relaxation for apartments up to 4 floors so far. It is because of this that old buildings in the city ─ both of the authority and private developers ─ do not have lifts in them. Over the past few years, many elderly residents have approached us with the application for lifts in buildings that are more than 3 floors tall. They had been finding it difficult to climb stairs on a regular basis,” an official of the authority was quoted in the report.

According to the reports, resident welfare associations of such buildings will have to arrange the money for installation of lifts from their own pocket. They will also have to get approval from residents in the housing society and the fire department before submitting an application with the Noida Authority. They will also have to pay a free to get a no-objection certificate from the authority.
