Make a checklist

There are a lot of tasks to do when relocating to a new place, and therefore, you can not fully trust your memory. Make a checklist consisting of all the tasks that you have to complete. It is even better to separate both pre-move and post-move tasks rather than jarring everything together.

Declutter

Your house has a lot of things that you don’t generally declutter. This is the time when you can do that effectively and identify what you want out of your belongings and what you don’t want. You can discard, donate, or sell the items you no longer need. This will also make the relocating easier.

Contact utility providers

As you shift to another house, contacting all your utility providers is vital. This will include water, internet, gas, TV, etc. This ensures that you don’t end up paying for the services you won’t need anymore. Thus, it is better to call them in regarding the transfer or cancellation of such services. You can ask for reconnection if they don’t provide a transfer.

Explore locality

Visiting and exploring your new locality beforehand will make you feel comfortable during the shifting process. Connect to your neighbours so that you don’t feel lonely in the new place. Also, don’t forget to check for grocery shops, pharmacies, fuel stations, hospitals, etc. in your new locality.

Packing plan

Packing is one thing that is more complicated than it looks. Therefore, it is better to make a packing plan as early as possible. After getting rid of all the stuff that you no longer need, start with a room that you don’t use often. Labelling all the boxes while packing is also better so that the unpacking process gets easier. You can either label it with the name of the space it is coming from or the place it will go to.

Keep liquids separate

If you have any liquids to pack as well, make sure to pack them completely separately. This is because the containers may open, leading to leakages and mess.

Make a survival kit

Preparing a survival kit is one of the most important tips to follow when relocating your house. It is vital to prepare a kit containing everything that you will essentially need in the new house. This includes basic things like chargers, toiletries, keys, medicines, pet food, etc. You can also add documents that you may require urgently.

Update your address

When done with packing, one thing that people often forget to do is update your address. Apply for change of address in documents like passport, aadhaar card, license, etc. Also, don’t forget to tell your loved ones or those who know you closely about your new address, as they may need it later on.
