Mohanlal Thevara house Kochi

He has built his dream home at Thevara in Kochi, which is green, bright and vibrant. The sense of aesthetics pervades every corner of this luxurious bungalow with its lovely surroundings. . This house was undergoing a repair work in 2022.

The house comes alive with its Arali trees which stay in full bloom for large parts of the year. There are red flowers, landscaped lawns and granite touches here and there. There are several plants and trees which camouflage the actor’s home from the world outside. There is a pandal crafted from wooden planks although without a roof, standing upon pillars which are intricately carved.

In the luxuriant yard, you will find a statement piece -an old cycle rickshaw under its own separate roof. This was used by the actor in the cult 1965 movie named Odayil Ninnu.

Mohanlal’s Home: A green paradise

Once you go up the stone steps, you get the sense of the house being surrounded with water with vibrant and colorful fishes swimming. A small wooden bridge takes you inside the lavish bungalow. A Singaporean technique has reportedly been employed for keeping the water fresh and crystal clear throughout the year.

Once you walk into the house, you will be awed by the huge aquarium in glass, followed by another one facing you. This fish tank sports a unique design and placement by which you can see the mini lake outside. It’s almost as if the water from outside is flowing into the home.

You will then find a private room which is decked up with several paintings, photographs, gifts received from friends and luminaries and other national honours including the Padmashree Award. The room is soundproof and a cozy private space for the actor to unwind. You have to go down a step to the main living room.

The wall has an antique piece, seemingly a musical clock. The entire room is filled with curios and antiques picked up by the legend on his numerous trips abroad. The living room opens to a verandah that looks onto the water body outside. A side of the room has mirror doors. The view is magnificent with the expansive Kochi buildings and backwaters on the horizon along with boats sailing past throughout the day.

There’s a swimming pool near the verandah. The pool is neatly encased within two black plum trees with a small verandah niche flanking it. This is actually a mini bar, for which you have to venture down another small step. There are several rooms kept ready for guests and children along with an open bathing space with white pebbles covering the floor. The water from the shower seeps into the floor and gives you the feeling of bathing in a river with the stones rolling under your feet. All windows here open onto the lake outside.

The actor has decorated his master bedroom elegantly while it is flanked by the home theater in a cozy space beside it. This has an imported and massive screen with cutting-edge audio systems. This space opens onto an art gallery, the special zone of the superstar. His art collections from his travels, sculptures, rare pictures and other priceless items are showcased here. All pictures of artist Namboodiri find pride of place here. There’s another rare Thanjavur portrait in the gallery.
