In the past three months, projects more than Rs 7,000 crore have been sanctioned under the PM JANMAN scheme, which aims to provide basic facilities to particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs) in the country.
“Most of these projects required availability of land, preparation of DPRs, sanctioning by respective state departments and approvals by respective ministries. In most of the states, Central share of the budget outlay has been released, construction works in projects related to housing, water, road, electricity, telecom and multipurpose centres have started. In many states, MMUs and Anganwadis sanctioned in January 2024 have become functional and vocational training in Vandhan Kendras have started,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on March 8.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (Pm-JANMAN) on November 15, 2023. The Centre plans to spend Rs 24,000 crore on the scheme over 3 years.
Purpose of PM JANMAN Mission
The PM JANMAN is designed for 75 PVTG communities who have been left out by the schemes of various ministries/departments and therefore need to be supported through this mission. Under the mission, 9 ministries are working in convergence for the welfare of 75 most vulnerable groups in 19 states and one UT. These communities could not get benefits of most of the schemes even after 75 years of independence due to remoteness of their locations, lack of awareness, lack of physical and digital connectivity and schematic norms.
