December 20, 2023:Â Average cost of construction of houses under the beneficiary-led individual house construction or enhancement (BLC) vertical of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) is Rs 3.72 lakh, parliament was informed on December 19. The construction cost of homes ranges from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh, Union minister of state for rural development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti informed the Lok Sabha on December 19 in a written reply.
Of this, average state contribution stood at Rs 84,000, ranging from Rs 16,000 to Rs 2 lakh while average beneficiary contribution under this vertical stood at Rs 1.35 lakh, ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 3.75 lakh, the minister said in her statement.
The ministry of housing and urban affairs is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) since June 25, 2015, to provide pucca house with basic amenities to all eligible urban beneficiaries. The government is providing its fixed share as Central assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh for the beneficiary-led individual house construction or enhancement (BLC) vertical of the PMAY-U.
Under the Beneficiary-led individual house construction/enhancements (BLC) vertical of the scheme, people belonging to the economically weaker sections (EWS) category can either construct a new house or enhance the existing house on their own with Central assistance of Rs 1,50,000.
