Bangalore-Mysore Expressway: Overview

Bangalore and Mysore are two of Karnataka’s most important cities, known for their significance in business and tourism. Currently, the four-lane NH-275 is a key highway connecting these cities, but it is often congested as it passes through populated areas like Maddur, Mandya, and Srirangapatna. The proposed Bangalore-Mysore Expressway, part of the NH-275 Highway, aims to alleviate these issues by providing a direct route between Bangalore and Mysore, as well as linking Bangalore to Mangalore, Kodagu, and Kerala regions.

The expressway has been upgraded from a state highway to a national highway with 10 lanes. The Bangalore-Mysore Expressway project includes the six-lane of the Bangalore-Nidaghatta-Mysore section of NH-275. Spanning 118 km, the expressway will significantly reduce travel time between Bangalore and Mysore from approximately three hours to about 90 minutes. The project features a mix of brownfield upgrades (60%) and greenfield developments (40%) and was proposed as an alternative to the cancelled NICE (Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises) Road.

Constructed in two phases with an investment of around Rs 8,066 Cr, the expressway includes a 51-km-long bypass road to avoid towns along the current route. This bypass will be fenced on both sides, enhancing safety and efficiency. The project is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana (BMP) initiative.
