July 9, 2024: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a helpline number, 1533, to address taxpayers’ queries regarding the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme. The BBMP launched the OTS scheme aimed at providing relief to property tax defaulters through interest waivers and halved penalty amounts. The scheme will be applicable till July 31, 2024.
According to the BBMP, only around 80,000 out of 4,00,000 property tax defaulters have availed themselves of the OTS scheme.
Khata-less property owners can submit online applications through the official portal and upload the relevant documents. They will be given a provisional tax number, which can be used to pay the property tax. Revenue officials will verify the documents and issue a Khata in three months. The officials will adjust any amount paid in excess against next year’s tax.
How to avail the OTS scheme?
- Property owners must log in to the BBMP’s property tax SAS system using mobile and OTP.
- They must enter the registered sale deed or transfer deed number. Based on this, the Kaveri-2 system will fetch details of property and owner and the encumbrance certificate.
- The user must enter the property details, including property photograph, its GPS and address.
- The owner details with Aadhaar will be compared with the purchaser name in the information obtained from Kaveri-2.
- In case of a match, the owner will be allowed to proceed and pay the property tax.
- In case of a mismatch, the case will be referred to an ARO or a designated officer to examine and make a decision.
- Once the name match and other items are confirmed, a temporary SAS (self-assessment scheme) number will be created for the property tax in the system.
- The owner can enter property usage details in Form 3 and pay property tax as per applicable tax, interest and penalties under OTS at present.Â
