BBMP locks Mantri Square Mall over unpaid property taxes

The total outstanding tax amount owed by Mantri Square to BBMP stands at Rs 51 crore.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has taken the step of locking the Mantri Square mall due to the non-clearance of substantial property tax arrears. Situated in Malleswaram, the mall’s management had been directed by the BBMP to settle its outstanding tax dues. As the management failed to clear the dues, BBMP revenue division staff visited the mall on December 27, 2023, and officially sealed it, citing non-payment of tax arrears.

The total outstanding tax amount owed by Mantri Square to BBMP stands at Rs 51 crore. Despite receiving multiple notices in the past urging the mall management to settle the arrears, there was no response. Consequently, BBMP officials took the action of locking the main gate of the mall and affixed a notice stating that the property would remain sealed until the tax dues are fully cleared.

This is not the first instance of Mantri Square Mall being sealed due to unpaid taxes; it has faced similar consequences multiple times over the past few years.
