It’s safe to say that Ahmedabad is among India’s top 10 cities. In terms of geography, it is spreading out in every direction. AMTS, which stands for Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Services, was insufficient to meet the requirements for effective public transportation in Ahmedabad.
In 2009, BRTS service began operating in Ahmedabad to complement AMTS service. People in all parts of the city have access to simple and inexpensive commute options due to the BRTS buses, which operate all across the city and run in every neighbourhood.

BRTS route: Coverage
The BRTS provides service to a significant portion of the city’s neighbourhoods and has a reasonably high frequency, in contrast to the AMTS buses, which go all the way to the most remote alleys. It covers from RTO Circle to Maninagar and from Anjali (Vasna) to Dharnidhar Derasar
BRTS route: Features
Considering its accolades and connections, the Ahmedabad BRTS comes out on top. The BRTS route offers the following features:
- Over its 12 active lines, it has 126 individual stations.
- Only the BRTS bus is authorised on the route.
- It is one of the quickest and most convenient ways to go about Ahmedabad.
- AMTS, the conventional public bus system, works in tandem with BRTS.
- To supplement the BRTS, a metro line connecting Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is in the works.
- CEPT, Ahmedabad, is responsible for its design (a leading institute)
- The cost of a bus ride is the same whether it has air conditioning or not.
- Most stations are accessible to those using wheelchairs, except for RTO Circle and Kalupur Railway Station.
- At stop lights, BRTS buses are prioritised.
- Bus arrival times and other information are shown digitally at each stop.
- The information for the next stop is shown on electronic screens inside the buses. The same information is often announced in Gujarati, Hindi, and English, with a few exceptions, such as certain buses.
- Roads are enlarged, and dedicated bicycle lanes are built alongside general traffic lanes as part of the BRTS project (wherever feasible)
- Those who would like not to purchase tickets constantly may do so with the help of smart cards. Smart cards with a “student special” price tag are also offered.
