Citizens of Chennai can pay their property tax dues to their respective corporations, municipalities and town panchayats by April 30, 2023, and avail of a 5% rebate as an incentive, as per a statement from the municipal administration and water supply department.
The Greater Chennai Corporation has extended the deadline for property tax payment with a 5% incentive till April 30 2023, as the new Act and Rules have come into force. The earlier deadline was April 15, 2023, according to the Chennai City Municipal Corporation Act.
An assessee will be eligible to get 5% of the net property tax payable as an incentive, subject to a maximum of Rs 5,000, if the payment is made within 30 days from the commencement of the half-year, as per the official release. April is the beginning of the half-year for 2023-24.
Property owners can pay property tax online through the Chennai corporation’s official website. Besides, they can also pay taxes through tax collectors who undertake door-to-door collection drives, at collection centres established up by zonal offices in corporations, municipality or town panchayat offices.
