A consortium of Hitachi Rail STS SPA and Hitachi Rail STS India Pvt Limited has been awarded a contract worth Rs 1,620 crore by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to install signalling and train control system for Chennai Metro Phase 2 project. The CMRL is executing the largest signalling tender for the phase-2 corridors of Chennai Metro.
The signalling and train control system will enable driverless trains on the 118.9-KM route. The 118.9-KM long, three-corridor phase-2 project is expected to be operational by 2026. The contract involves design, manufacture, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of signalling, train control and video management system for the Chennai Metro phase 2.
This also includes a modern communication-based train control system that will enable automatic train operation without a driver. In the Chennai Metro phase-2, trains will be operated at a frequency of 90 seconds.
The tender was floated to incorporate the latest metro rail technology used in the world for the metro train sets under the phase 2 project, mentioned CMRL official release.
