July 22, 2024: Construction work on Delhi Metro’s two new corridors under the Phase 4 project, from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and from Indraprastha to Inderlok, is expected to start by the end of this year, as per media reports. The approval for these two corridors was recently received from the Centre. Spanning 20.07 km, these corridors will provide connectivity to several areas in South and Central Delhi.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expedited the preliminary work on the two corridors. Officials said that the alignment work, including surveys and studies to examine the routes, connecting points, and required statutory clearances, has been completed, as cited in an Indian Express report.
Currently, DMRC is working to obtain statutory clearances from several departments. A senior DMRC official stated that DMRC is in the process of acquiring statutory clearances, including land acquisition from the authorities. Other clearances, such as forest clearances and tree-cutting permissions, are also being sought at appropriate levels. Apart from clearances and permissions, other processes regarding planning and tendering for civil works are also in progress.
The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block corridor is being established to provide hassle-free connectivity to areas including Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash 1, Chirag Dilli, Pushpa Bhawan, Pushp Vihar, Saket District Centre and Saket G Block.
Moreover, the Indraprastha to Inderlok corridor will be the first metro line to have multiple interchange stations. There will be ten stations on the 12-km section, with interchange facilities to other lines at five stations. These include the Blue Line (Delhi to Noida/ Vaishali), Pink Line (Majlis Park to Maujpur), Magenta Line (Botanical Garden to Janakpuri West), Yellow Line (Gurgaon to Samaypur Badli) and Red Line (Rithala to Ghaziabad New Bus Adda).
The south Delhi corridor will provide interchange facilities to the Yellow, Magenta, Pink and Violet lines, the report said.
