CREDAI enrols 7,000 workers under NIPUN upskilling initiative

After an 80-hour training programme and a third-party assessment conducted by the construction skill council, a nationally recognised certificate is awarded by NSDC to the workers.

Developers body CREDAI has enrolled more than 7,000 workers under the National Initiative for Promotion of Upskilling of Nirman workers (NIPUN) initiative, an upskilling programme for construction workforce under the housing ministry.

This is in line with the Union Budget 2023 focus on upskilling programmes with the Central government launching PMKVY 4.0 to skill lakhs of youth and setting up 30 Skill India International centers across different states to train youth for international opportunities.

The government and the housing ministry through implementing agencies have identified skill shortages in the current construction workforce and have taken an initiative to train them in content that is specially developed according to the worker’s individual needs.

Following an 80-hour training programme and a third-party assessment conducted by the construction skill council, a nationally recognised certificate is awarded by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

“The government echoed CREDAI’s sentiment towards the need for upskilling as they announced the Budget for FY 23-24. More than 2 lakh construction workers have benefitted from our skilling initiatives since 2011 and under the NIPUN initiative, we plan to upskill 20,000 workers,” said Harsh Vardhan Patodia, president, CREDAI.
