March 18, 2024: The proposed Delhi-Gurgaon-Dharuhera rapid rail transit system (RRTS) corridor will have an underground station at Hero Honda Chowk in Gurgaon, connecting with the new Gurgaon Metro to be developed, according to a TOI report.
Earlier, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had not incorporated a rapid rail station at the Hero Honda Chowk. However, the agency added the link to the proposed route after the new Gurgaon Metro line was approved. The NCRTC is a joint venture company of the Central government and the state governments of Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
As cited in the report, Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) estate officer Vikas Danda said that the rapid rail station will be built in Sector 33. The interchange facility between the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) and the metro will ease connectivity for commuters. They will provide land for the project, he said.
The NCRTC has sought 5,864 square metre (sqm) of land in the city for the rapid rail corridor.
Delhi-Dharuhera RRTS route
As per the latest plan, the rapid rail route will start from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and pass through Jor Bagh and Munirka before reaching Aero City near Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) Airport.
The line will enter Gurgaon and pass through National Highway-8 (NH-8) with stations at Cyber Hub, IFFCO Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Kherki Daula, Manesar and Panchgaon and finally terminate at Dharuhera.
All the RRTS stations in Delhi will be underground. In Gurgaon, Cyber Hub, IFFCO Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk and Kherki Daula will be underground.
Sanjeev Kaushal, the outgoing chief secretary, had said that the Kherki Daula will have three levels. From here, trains will take an elevated route till they reach the terminating station in Rajasthan’s Behror. Besides the addition of Hero Honda Chowk, the RRTS corridor was initially planned to go up to the Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror (SNB) urban complex in Rajasthan.
According to the original plan approved by the Haryana government in 2019, the RRTS corridor was planned to pass through Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road. However, the route was changed in August 2023 to keep the alignment along NH-8 in the city. The 28.8-km metro corridor, proposed to be built from Huda City Centre to Cyber City via old Gurgaon, was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2023. The report said the RRTS corridor has yet to be approved by the Union Cabinet.
In January 2024, bids were invited to conduct geotechnical soil investigation work for a new alignment of the 164 km Delhi – Alwar RRTS (RapidX) line through Gurgaon.
