January 16, 2024: Delhi’s Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena has granted approval for the notification of 147 acre of land in the Rani Khera Industrial area. This decision follows similar approvals for 55.20 acre in the Baprola Industrial area in September 2023 and 920 acre in the Kanjhawala Industrial area in May 2023.
Originally transferred from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to the Delhi State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) in 2007, the land was designated for the development of a multilevel manufacturing hub. However, legal obstacles, including a stay imposed by the National Green Tribunal in December 2017, delayed the project until the Supreme Court lifted the NGT order on July 31, 2023.
Subsequently, on January 3, 2024, the Delhi government’s industries department presented the file to Saxena, seeking approval to notify the Rani Khera Industrial area for development by the DSIIDC under the relevant provisions of the Delhi Industrial Development Operation and Maintenance Act 2010, in accordance with the Master Plan of Delhi 2021. The proposed industrial hub at Rani Khera is envisioned as an eco-friendly project, focusing on service industries such as IT, ITES, biotechnology, media and research.
