This is compelling communities to embrace vertical living, reshaping the essence of urban landscapes. While vertical living in cities appears as a feasible solution to the space constraints, they also cause a sense of social disconnection, reduced sense of belonging and isolation. As architects, it is important to have a better community living and design structures or buildings that foster a social connection. Here we will discuss the ways of transforming high-rise living with technology, leading to social connectivity among residents.
Vertical revolution with high-rise structures
High-rise structures have gone beyond apartment clusters and become a hub of social interaction and communal living. Rooftop gardens and social lounges are being designed to foster belongingness among residents. Thoughtful layouts, comfortable seating arrangements, and informal meeting places help encourage communal living among occupants. For instance, rooftop gardens serve as a verdant oasis offering an escape from urban life while allowing you to enjoy panoramic views of the skyline. With lush greenery and tranquil water features, they become intersections of activities that help residents engage with each other.
Hub of activity and engagement
It is important to incorporate community centers in high-rise structures, that offer a wide range of amenities and services for residents like fitness facilities, coworking spaces, and event venues. This space provides opportunities for interaction and collaboration, fostering a sense of engagement, exposure, and familiarity within communities. Other design strategies include creating pedestrian-friendly streetscapes, and integrated transportation system.
Smart technology in high-rise structure
Automation and sensor technology advancements have made high-rise buildings a better choice for occupants. Features like climate control and smart lighting systems optimise energy usage, making every aspect of high-rise structures intelligent. For instance, automated waste management systems can be used to streamline the process of waste disposal, reducing environmental impact.
Community building in vertical realm
Beyond efficiency and comfort, smart buildings prioritize the element of human interaction and social connection within communities. By using the medium of digital communication platforms and social networking tools, residents can have a more simplified and convenient mode of communication, creating virtual communities that grow beyond physical boundaries. Further, interfaces like smart scheduling and booking systems can be used to ensure equitable access to these spaces.
