The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) plans to restart the scheme to waive the late payment surcharge levied on pending water bills for citizens who clear their arrears by December 31, 2022. The Delhi government announced the decision taken on October 11, 2022, by the DJB headed by deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.
The scheme will be applicable on all the water pending bills till September 30, 2022, and will remain effective till March 31, 2023.
According to a DJB official, Consumers who clear their outstanding arrears by December 31, 2022, will be eligible for a 100 per cent waiver on late payment surcharge (LPSC). However, consumers who choose to make the payments on outstanding arrears between January 1 to March 31, 2023, will be eligible for a 75 per cent waiver.
Further, the official added that a five per cent late payment surcharge on the outstanding amount would be levied on the next billing cycle according to the existing billing arrangement.
As per the official, with a five per cent late fee on monthly bills, over 60 per cent on the outstanding bill amount will rise only on account of the late payment surcharge in a financial year.
This will be the fifth waiver scheme announced by the Delhi Jal Board in the past ten years.

The last waiver scheme by the Delhi Jal Board was operational till March 31 2021. The agency has collected water bill amounts of Rs 27,628.79 crore.
