Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has opened a 130-km pedestrian subway between the Terminal 1 – IGI Domestic Airport metro station of the Magenta line and the Arrival terminal of the domestic airport terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The subway was inaugurated on January 4, 2023, in the presence Vikas Kumar, Managing Director, DMRC. This aims to provide easy connectivity and reduce commuting time.
Some of the features of the newly constructed subway include:
- The subway will have two escalators and two lifts and a staircase for each entry and exit, to enable the smooth movement of passengers.
- Lifts have been installed in the subways, which are more spacious than the general lifts and have a carrying capacity of 26 people.
- The subway has been designed with artwork depicting the rich heritage of the region.
In December 2022, DMRC signed an agreement with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the development of the proposed metro rail link between New Delhi railway station (NDLS) and Greater Noida city.
The proposed metro route is part of Uttar Pradesh government’s plan to ease the commute of passengers going towards Noida International Airport in Jewar from New Delhi railway station. As per the plan, two metro rail stretches will be constructed – Noida Airport to Knowledge Park and Knowledge Park to New Delhi Railway Station. There will be a total of 11 stations on this metro route.
